New Delhi: India win second test match against Australia by 8 wickets, level series. All members of the current Ajinkya Rahane-led Indian team achieved a unique first as India beat Australia by 8 wickets on Day 4 of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday. With the win India also drew level (1-1) in the four-match Border-Gavaskar trophy.
After the nightmare of Adelaide, what a week it has been for India in Melbourne. Amid predictions of a whitewash, Ajinkya Rahane has led his side to a famous win that sees them draw level at 1-1 in this fascinating series.
In truth, India dominated from the outset at the MCG. After bowling the Aussies out for less than 200 on Day 1, a Rahane masterclass of 112 off 223 – a knock that helped secure Man of the Match honours – led his side to a more-than-healthy first innings lead of 131. And after reducing the Aussies to 99/6 in the second dig, it simply became a matter of time before the tourists secured victory. Mohammed Siraj was brilliant on debut, returning match figures of 5-77, while the brilliant Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Ashwin returned six and five wicket hauls respectively.
The eight-wicket win (the same margin Australia won by in Adelaide) sees India take huge momentum into the Third Test .
