Report by Badal Tah; Rayagada: Green Rayagada, an environment outfit led by Sri K K Jena and Sri Jogeswar Das, along with a number of other civil society organisations(CSOs) named Odisha Union of Working Journalists, Walkers Club, Om Shanti, Blu Dart Courier, ACC Cement Ltd, CRPF-4th Battalion, Lions Club took out a rally on the eve of World Environment Day which started from Gajapati junction and culminated at Gandhi Park.
The rally with environment related slogans was jointly flagged off by Mrs Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, District Collector, Sri K Siva Subramani, Superientendent of Police, Sri Manoj Kumar Sharma, Commandant, CRPF-4th Battalion. The dignitaries who participated in the rally were Smt V Gowri Jayanti, Chairperson, Rayagada Municipality, Dr.Niranjan Buxipatro, Vice-Chairperson, Rayagada Munipality, Principal Rayagada Women’s College, Sri S K Mohapatra, General Manager(P&IR), JK Paper Mill and many jawans from CRPF, students of KIMT college & Centurion College and officials from forest deptt and regional pollution control board.
At the culmination point dignitaries like Sri Manoj Kumar Sharma, Sri SK Mohapatra, Sri Badal Kumar Tah, Sri Jogeswar Das, Sri Rajesh Kumar Padhi addressed the gathering. While Sri Sharma emphasised on planting more and trees to contain global warming, Sri Das requested the august gathering to protect at least the existing trees. Sri S K Mohapatra described the effort of JK Paper Mills in its massive plantation drive including the avenue plantation in collaboration with the forest deptt. He even went on to say about a novel way of maximising the survival of the trees through a gel technology through which their company was producing plants. Mr Tah reiterated the need of enumerating the number of plants planted by the state and non-state actors for last five years. He expressed his concern about the statistical jugglery projected specially by the forest department and professed a reality check by an independent entity like People’s Task Force. Sri K K Jena extended vote of thanks.
