Eviction along Drainage Channel No. 7: 300 ft boundary wall, encroachment removed

Bhubaneswar: Continuing its ‘’Zero Tolerance Policy’’ towards encroachments over drains and drainage channels, the joint eviction squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) today conducted a drive along the drainage channel no. 7. The programme started from near Ganganagar Square and continued up to New Airport Square in Bhimpur mouza under Airfield Police Station.
As per the BMC requisition the Enforcement Team consisting of the officials and squads of BDA and BMC proceeded to the spot with one excavator at around 10.30 am and continued till 5 pm. The eviction was carried out peacefully without the help from local police.
During the drive two asbestos houses, one extension shed and near about 300 feet long boundary wall was demolished from Modern Hospital Road to Airport Road. BDA Enforcement Officer-II Pramod Kumar Patro and Liaison Officer Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty were present.
The drainage channel, which has a portion of airport, OUAT hostels and colony, Ganganagar, Bhimpur, Forest Park and New Forest Park area as its catchment, after passing through the railway track, goes via Ratha Road and near the historic Bindusagar and by the historic temples along the Kotitirtheswar Lane. It later goes and meets Gangua nullah just before the Samantarapur bridge on Rasulgarh-Puri Road.
Large-scale encroachment and covering of the drainage channel with concrete structure and slabs has squeezed the width and water carrying capacity in this channel.
