Bhubaneswar: Deep depression system developing into cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ in South East Bay of Bengal unlikely to have an impact on Odisha in next four to five days. This was informed by the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre duty officer Sashikant.
However, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds may occur at isolated places in the state under impact of the cyclone.
Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in districts like Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam, informed Duty Officer of the Meteorological Centre, Gauranga Charan Behera.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching 30-40 Kmph may also occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore districts, he added.
Cyclonic Storm Fani forms in Bay of Bengal. It is presently centered at lat 5.4°N & long 88.5°E, about 870 km from Trincomalee, Sri lanka,1220 km southeast of Chennai and 1410 km of Machilipatnam. It will intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hrs.
