Report by Nishapati Nayak, Koraput: Central University of Orissa organized a two days Orientation programme in counseling at its Landiguda campus at Koraput on 9-10 July, 2018 . Mrs. Sushree Mishra, co-founder and counseling leader at Human Capital Foundation, Bangaluru conducted the programme as an expert. Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University was present on the inaugurate session of orientation programme and highlighted the importance of counseling in the higher educational set up.
Prof. Mohanty said “guidance and counseling services are an indispensable part of any higher education institution. Students at the University face multiple problems in adjustments. Counseling services are meant to ensure appropriate assistance for students and staff of the University”.
Mrs. Mishra made a pilot study of the University environment particularly on man power, facilities available and human behavior. She guided the Student Counselors and Hostel Wardens and suggested different ways and techniques in counseling for the student of the University. She focused on creation of learning environment, regular sensitization of the issues, responsible behavior, reduction of stress and individual counseling. She is expected to submit a report on her pilot study for strengthening the existing Counseling Unit of the University.
Teaching and non-teaching staff and research scholars of the University participated in large numbers in the programme. It was coordinated by Counseling and PR Units of the University.
