Dhenkanal: Remembering the contributions of, Professor K M Shrivastava, to the domain of mass media education, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Dhenkanal organized a memorial lecture in the campus on his 3rd death anniversary here on Tuesday. Delivering the lecture on ‘Broadcasting in India: now and beyond’, Former DDG of Prasar Bharati Abhaya Padhi informed the students regarding the evolution and future possibilities of the broadcast sector in India.
“Broadcast media has come a long way since its beginning in 1924. We have seen a phenomenal growth in the sector in last few decades in the industry. However with development of new technologies, the face of Broadcast Media is likely to change in near future. Today, smart phones have partially replaced television sets. In the future, role of journalists will also change with introduction of Artificial Intelligence in the field,” he said.
Padhi also spoke on topics like the growth of fake news and changing ownership patterns in the broadcast media sector in his lecture. Regional Director of IIMC Dhenkanal Professor Mrinal Chatterjee was also present at the event.
One of the most renowned faces in Indian Media Academia, Professor Shrivastava died on 28th August 2015 at the age of 63 when he collapsed at the Nizammuddin Railway Station and was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared brought dead.
He was professor at IIMC for more than 25 years and served as the Head of IIMC Dhenkanal for around two years. Shrivastava, besides teaching and training journalists, also authored several books like ‘News Reporting and Editing’, ‘Broadcast Journalism in 21st Century’, ‘News Agencies: from Pigeon to Internet’ and ‘Radio and TV Journalism’.
