Bhopal :The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that 15 lakh farmers of the state will receive total Rs. 2990 crore against crop insurance by next week. The amount will be deposited directly in their bank accounts. Shri Chouhan was addressing the meeting of Agriculture department at Mantralaya today. The Chief Secretary Shri Iqbal Singh Bains, Principal Secretary Agriculture Shri Ajit Kesri and other officers were present at the meeting.
Shri Chouhan said that the premium of Rs. 2200 crore payable by the government for Kharif and Rabi crops was not paid by the previous government. Due to this, farmers did not get the benefit of the crop insurance. Shri Chouhan said that as soon as the government was formed, we released this amount to the insurance companies in March; now the farmers will be able receive crop insurance money.
The Principal Secretary Agriculture informed at the meeting that the premium amount towards the crop insurance under the Kharif season 2018 and Rabi season 2018-19 has been released to the insurance companies by the government. Now the farmers will get the amount of crop insurance for these years. It was informed in the meeting that the crops were insured by 35 lakh farmers in the state under the Kharif season 2018, out of which 8.40 lakh farmers will get insurance amount of Rs. 1930 crore. Similarly, Crops were insured by 25 lakh farmers in the state during the Rabi season 2018-19. Out of these, 6.60 lakh farmers will get insurance amount of Rs. 1060 crore.
