Vedanta’s BALCO Medical Centre champions the vision for a cancer-free India

New Delhi: By 4th February, 2020 (World Cancer Day), the Vedanta Medical Research Foundation (VMRF) run BALCO Medical Centre, a state-of-the-art 170-bed ultra-modern, multi-modality diagnostic and therapeutic facility hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has treated a cumulative patient count of 6500 and received 25,000+ OPD footfalls since receiving its first patient in 2018. In the short span since its inception, the BMC has already made a difference to the lives of thousands of people by providing avenues for awareness creation, consultation, screening and treatment. Initially aimed at catering to Chhattisgarh and nearby states, BALCO Medical Centre has emerged as one of the biggest cancer hospitals in eastern India and gained tremendous popularity as a sought-after treatment center in India, thanks to the medical expertise of its 45 specialist doctors and staff, plethora of amenities, affordability of treatment and compassionate care to the patients during their trying times.

Following Vedanta Group Chairman Mr. Anil Agarwal’s work philosophy that marries stakeholder value with inclusive growth of local communities, BALCO Medical Centre has dedicated itself to the three important pillars which make the vision of cancer-free society a reality, namely prevention, screening and treatment. Since its early days, it has been at the forefront of spreading awareness about cancer prevention, leveraging all forms of communication and partnering with media and other like-minded experts. As an important second step, the hospital collaborated with National Health Mission, Government of Chhattisgarh to conduct screening camps across 27 districts of Chhattisgarh, bringing specialists to doorsteps of the public and providing free screening for the three most common cancers – Breast, Cervix and Oral. These camps witness heavy footfall and already more than thousand patients have benefited since its launch in November 2019.

Mrs. Jyoti Agarwal, Chairperson, Balco Medical Centre, said, “Vedanta Group with its considerable CSR footprint has always closely aligned all its CSR activities with national priorities. In the space of health care, Balco Medical Centre (BMC) that Vedanta has set up at Naya Raipur, was established to contribute towards prevention, control and eradication of cancer. BMC runs various screening campaigns from time to time and at various places, among every strata of society, to promote early detection of cancer.”

S. Venkata Kumar, Chief Operating Officer, BALCO Medical Centre, re-iterated that, “We envisage a society where everybody lives free from cancer. This is achievable in true sense only if we take the path of screening and prevention besides providing the world-class cancer care that we provide.”

Today, BALCO Medical Center has emerged as a preferred comprehensive cancer care facility in the country for advanced radiation therapy, brachytherapy, nuclear medicine, surgeries, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, blood-related disorders, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and pain & palliative care. With its substantial and impactful work, the hospital is on the mission to help create a cancer-free society, dedicating its expertise and resources to address the country’s massive demand-supply gap in cancer treatment, low penetration of awareness, infrastructure and shortage of oncologists. With the vision of adding academics and research into the system in the near future, BALCO Medical Center aims to become a world-renowned center of excellence in Oncology. On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the hospital re-dedicates itself to be in forefront of the fight against cancer, one of mankind’s most dangerous diseases, and continues to serve humankind with utmost care and compassion.
