Bhubaneswar: Sujeet Kumar received Odisha Youth Inspiration Award of 2017 in Public Policy from Odisha Diary Foundation. The award was conferred on Mr. Kumar for his innovative work as a policymaker and legal entrepreneur and for his cutting-edge work at the interface of law, technology, and public policy. He received the award from eminent journalist Padma Shri Mr. Vinod Dua, leading literary figure Padma Shri Mr. Keki N. Daruwala and Mr. Rashmi Ranjan Parida, the founder of Odisha Diary.
The jury took special note of his leadership in conceptualizing and driving the Child-Friendly Constituency (CFC) at Kalinga Kusum Foundation (KKF). He, in collaboration with Unicef, has been pro-active in promoting the idea of child-friendly constituencies across the state. Under his dynamic guidance and effective mentoring, KKF has developed a unique model of legislative engagement where MLAs of the state of Odisha get oriented on child rights and child rights advocacy.
In addition to Kalinga Kusum, he is also a mentor at Lex Mantra, a law and startup consulting firm, which is committed to provide pro bono legal consulting to women entrepreneurs. Having been an entrepreneur himself, he is leveraging his experience and expertise, to mentor and guide and to invest in and promote a startup culture in Odisha by creating new entrepreneurs among the youth.
The jury highlighted his effective work in the official capacity as the Special Secretary-cum-OSD of the State Planning Board, Government of Odisha, a very senior level policy planning position. In this role, he has played an important part in expanding the community participation in public policy making and his work in the effective implementation of the flagships schemes have also been widely acclaimed.
Sujeet Kumar is an alumnus of two prestigious universities of the world; an MBA from the Oxford University’s Said Business School and an MPA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He has also worked for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Infosys Technologies in India.
In his note of acceptance, Sujeet Kumar thanked Odisha Diary for the Youth Inspiration Award. He mentioned “I am happy that the jury took note of my personal and professional work in areas of public policy, law, technology, and entrepreneurship. I am honored to have received this award and it increases my responsibility. Odisha Living Legend, Youth Inspiration, and Odisha Inc Awards provide me a unique platform to engage with all Odisha Diary Laureates and collaborate with them for a better Odisha and a better India”.
