Bhubaneswar: Enforcement of fundamental rights of working women under Article 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of India is the role and responsibility of Government. With increasing awareness and emphasis on gender justice, efforts to guard against violations and incidents of sexual harassment at workplace, there is an urgent need for action. In this context, the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act & Rule 2013 becomes a vital tool towards addressing the issue of sexual harassment of women at workplace. At the state level Department of Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti, Govt of Odisha is the nodal of the Act.
In this regard an one day State level training on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act 2013 for members of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the Directorates and Departments was organized on 2nd February 2019 in Pantha Niwas, Bhubaneswar by the Department of Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti . A total of 130 members of the Internal Complaints Committee of the various directorates and departments participated in the training programme.
Smt Geetanjali Goel, Additional District and Sessions Judge posted as Special Secretary Delhi State Legal Authority was the resource person who explained the objectives, purpose and the implement mechanism as per the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace ((Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act & Rule 2013 and also shared many case studies on sexual harassment.
The training concluded with an open house discussion. Sri N Barik, Joint Secretary and Dr A Patel, SPC, SPMU were present on the occasion.
