Bhubaneswar: Millets are climate-resilient, healthy and nutritious – a smart food that is now officially declared as Nutricereals or (pusti shasya).
Millets Mission Odisha is a Government of Odisha initiative that was announced in the Budget of 2016 and implemented in the Kharif of 2017. The Government of India has also declared 2018 as the National Year of Millets.
A unique architecture of the Mission is the coming together of the Government with Academia (at Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies, NCDS) and Civil Society (led by Watershed Support Services and Activity Network, WASSAN). Recently, the Chief Minister of Odisha has announced ₹100 crore package and with this the Mission will be extended from 30 blocks across seven districts to 55 blocks across 11 districts. There are also plans of introducing Millets in Aanganwadis under Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and Schools under Mid-Day Meal (MDM).
To increase awareness, the Mission has started an Urban Internship through NCDS and WASSAN. As part of this internship, eatery stalls are being set-up across the Smart City that would be serving millet-based recipes.
The stalls will be in two locations each day. Day wise location of stalls are as follows.
