Ragging-free Campus Abhiyan for colleges and universities launched

Bhubaneswar: A Ragging-free Campus Abhiyan for colleges and universities was launched here on Sunday.

A large number of students, parents, social activists, educationists led by Abhiyan convenor Tejeshwar Parida organised a silent prayer and awareness and oath-taking programmes at the Mahatma Gandhi Park.

They strongly opposed the ragging incidents at the UP Medical College and VSSUT at Burla recently. Activists said students who are subjected to ragging should inform the college authorities and file complaints at the nearby police stations. Senior students and authorities should take steps to stop ragging.

There should be ‘anti-ragging cells’ in police stations. It was decided that a workshop against ragging would be held in Bhubaneswar on next Sunday.

The activists demanded that authorities take stern action against students involved in ragging.

Among others, Abhiyan co-convenors Mir Ahammad Ali and Satyabrata Jena, Gandian leader Prahallad Singh, Madhusudan Das, Monoj Jena, Aryabhatta Mohanty, Odisha Parents’ Federation president Basudev Bhatta, Prasanna Bishoyi, United BPUT Students’ Association convenor Pradosh Parida and social activist Tusharkanti participated in the programmes.
