Pravasi Odia Vikash Samiti celebrated ‘Mahavisiba Sakranti Utstav’ in New Delhi

New Delhi: Pravasi Odia Vikash Samiti (POVS) has celebrated it’s 5th ‘Mahavisiba Sakranti Utstav’ in a highly spectacular way in New Delhi. More than Fifteen Hundreds Odias gathered from different parts of Delhi and NCR regions to celebrate this annual function with Pana, different odiya food and different odia cultural programmes. Addressing the gathering Chef speaker Sri Indresh Kumar ji (RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini Sadasya ) recalled the braveries of Odias and its cultural supremacy since ancient times under the blessing of Sri Jaganath and hoped that similar role to be played by Odias again. He gave oath to the audience to take care of girls properly since girls bring prosperity to family and society. He advised the gathering to adhere to the principle of helping the poor and needy people which earns Punya. He appreciated POVS’s service activities.
Guest of Honour, Swami Sudhanand Saraswati addressed the gathering advising to speak in Odia language in day today life and to return to our own Odia culture which is based on complete scientific way instead of imitating western cultures. He stressed upon to observe all the Odia parvas which are full of harmony, togetherness and joy. He reminded all that Odias known for their self esteem and popular as ‘peaceful native’ across the world because of their ancient culture and not for adaptation of extravaganza western life.
Guest of Honor Sri Upendra Tripathy, AIS Retd who is the Director General of International Solar Alliances (Nations Organizations body) shared his experiences and advised all Odiys to be close to natural resources. While presiding the meeting, Professor Chintamani Mohapatra, Rector of JNU expressed his astonishment seeing so many Odia people in the gathering to celebrate Odia New Year with so much enthusiasm and fun on a land which is thousand miles far from native odisa.


The prestigious “PRAVASI ODIA SAMANA AWAR 2017”” was conferred on Sri Harihar Deo (an acclaimed Odia Choreographer for his exemplarily works for helping hundreds of Odia Orphan children, physically handicapped children and transgender to recognize their inner talents across the world despite of being 80% disabled). This Saman is the highest award given by Pravasi Odia Vikash Samiti every year. The joint winner of this 2017 award is Smt Sailabala Mishra who runs an NGO for same orphans for last several decades in Bhubaneswar.
Several Odia childres and Families who participated in Quiz Competitions and Drawing Completions based on Odia history, culture and life, also were awarded. Several Odia Dancers entrilled the audience with their explempory performance. POVs honored several other odia social organizations and Jaganath temples organizations who are helping and serving the Odiya community in Delhi NCR region. Along with this, POVs facilitated few other prominent Odia persons for their works and achievements .
‘Pravasi Odia’ the printed annual magazine also got released by honorable Guests. Drawing the inspiration from Honorable Prime minister Sri Narendra Modi, the online version digital book of this magazine(www.pravasiodia.online) got released which can be just a click away by anybody across the world if he wants to read the magazine.
The introduction and the objective of the organization were shared by the president Dr. Krushna Chandra Sahoo and the annual report was presented by Sri Prasan Kumar Parida, General Secretary of POVs.

Other prominent ‘POVians’ who also presented their committee’s achievement were, Dr. Sukumar Mishra (vice president and convener – Award Committee), Dr. Prakash Sahoo (vice president and convener – Souvenir Committee), Sri Gyandatta Supakar (Head, student’s Wing and convener – Quiz and Painting competition Committee), Sri Tapas Ranjan Parida ( Jt, Secretary and convener -Guest Committee), Sri Malaya Pradhan ( Jt. Secretary and Convener- Food Committee).
The Vote of thanks was proposed by Sri Pravash Mishra ( Vice president and Chief convener – Maha Bisuba Sankranti Ustava 2017.
The celebrations ended with few cultural programmes performed by Odia children and at the end Odia dinner was served.
