New Delhi: Prabasi Odia Utsav 2017 was celebrated full day at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, with much fanfare in the midst of over 3700 Prabasi Odias living in the NCR. The auditorium of the university, where the Utsav was held, was filled to its capacity, which was beyond the expectations of the organizers. It was a grand celebration. The culture and traditions of Odisha came alive reflecting a mini-Odisha nearly two thousand kilometres away from the homeland.
The experience was unique as the Prabasi Odias got another opportunity after one year for social and emotional interaction. The second Prabasi Odia Utsav was inaugurated by the union culture and tourism minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma who was fascinated by the richness of Odia culture. He spoke eloquent of Odisha culutre and tradition and even promised to arrange a piece of land for the construction of a Jagannath Temple in Noida/Greater Noida, which happens to be his Lok Sabha constituency.
The inaugural ceremony was attended among others by Padma Vibhushan Sh. Ragunath Mohapatra, Dr Prabhash Kumar Singh & Sh. Balabhadra Majhi, Member of Parliament (Loksabha) and several other prominent personalities. During the morning session the felicitation ceremony for various categories were conducted by Prabasi Odia Ustav-2017 team for the outstanding contribution in various fields. Sh. Bijay Mohanty (Odia Film Actor) from Art & Culture, Dr. Siddharth Das (Dean & Principal, SCB Medical College, Cuttack) from Health & Education, Sh. Dilip Mohanty (Tennis Star) and Ms Dutee Chaand (Olympic Athletic) from Sports, Sh. Radhakanta Tripathy, Subrat Kumar Panigrahi & Ms. Shailabala Mishra (Social activists) from Social services, Sh. B K Swain (Industrialist) from Business World. It was also followed by colourful cultural progammes.
In the afternoon a souvenir titled Prabasi Odia Utsav-2017 as also released by Member of Parliament (Loksabha) Sh. Bijayanta Jaya Panda and prize for various categories were awarded to kids by Sh. Kishore Diwedi (Sr Jjournalist). The Odia cuisine was also main attraction on the occasion. Varieties of delicious Odia food was also presented for the enjoyment of Prabasi Odias. Tandra Ray also attended the function. There were Lucky Draws in order to attract young Odia children and prizes were also awarded to them. The grand event ended with full of Odia music by Odia great singer Ms Sushmita Das and Sh. T Shourie & Troupes.
The main objective of organizing Prabasi Odia Utsav is to promote Odia culture and traditions outside Odisha and also to strengthen Odia identity among Odias living in Delhi and its neighbouring areas. Prabasi Odia Utsav-2017 was jointly organized by Odisha Jana Seva Sanghathan and Prabasi Odia Paribar. Last year a similar Prabasi Odia Utsav was organized at Bramha Kumari Ashram, Om Shanti, Gurgaon, Haryana.
