Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi commended Odisha’s preparedness for #CycloneFani, relief and restoration after the cyclone and last mile reach to evacuate people on time and save millions of lives.
Prime Minister Modi lauded Odisha as a case study in disaster preparedness for other states and nations to follow. He also announced additional interim assistance of ₹1000 cr for Odisha for relief activities.
Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik along with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi undertook aerial survey of Cyclone Fani affected regions of Odisha and apprised him of efforts undertaken by State Government prior to the cyclone and afterwards for relief and restoration.
More than 1 crore people in 14,835 villages and 46 towns of 11 districts in the state are affected by the cyclone. In a record-mobilization over 12 lakh people including 2,000 pregnant women were evacuated in less than 24 hours to 9,000 shelters with functional kitchens.
CM stated that Odisha has set global standards in saving precious lives, now we need to set global standards in making Odisha disaster-proof. He sought ₹10,000cr for disaster-resilient power infra, ₹7,000Cr for converting 5 lakh kutcha houses to pucca houses & disaster-resilient telecom networks.
