Bhubaneswar: Sumitra Nayak, who hails from Jajpur, fondly called Rugby Rani, is all set to lead Indian eves at Asia Rugby U-20 Women’s Seven Series. Five players from Odisha, including Sumitra have been selected in Indian team for this event to be held in Vientiane, Laos on August 24 and 25.They are Ranjani Sabar, Soni Mandangi, Parbati Kisku, Lija Sardar.

Recently Indian senior women’s rugby team clinched silver after losing to Philippines (12-19) in the final of the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy held in Jakarta on 9th & 10 August where Sumitra Nayak was part of the team.
She had played a vital role in India’s first first-ever international 15s victory in Rugby on 23rd June. Sumitra landed Indian Rugby women’s team a historic win against Team Singapore ( 21-19) and created their first ever international win in Manila to finish third in the Asian Rugby Championship (Div-1).
