Report by Nishapati Nayak; Jeypore: An engineering student, who had allegedly murdered his friend’s mother in Jeypore town in Koraput district on October 17, was arrested today.
Aditya Mohanty strangulated his friend Rajat Khandual’s mother Birajin Khandual to death on October 17, Jeypore Town police said.
Police said accused Aditya was the friend of Birajin’s son Rajat Khandual. On October 17, Aditya visited Rajat’s house at Irrigation Colony. At that time nobody except Birajin was present there. Taking the opportunity, Aditya was stealing money from the almirah when Birajin caught him red-handed.Later, Aditya strangulated her to death in a bid to cover up his crime and fled from the hosue.
Neither the family members nor any neighbour had any knowledge about the incident. The matter came to light when Birajini’s husband Prashant Kumar Khandual returned to his house from Bhubaneswar next morning, he found her wife’s body lying on the floor.
At a Press meet, SDPO Rajendra Senapati said, “A scientific team helped us in the investigation. We arrested Aditya on the basis of the evidences against him. He has also confessed to his crime.”
