Bhubaneswar: Rich tribute has been paid to Padmashree Sanjukta Panigrahi, one of the foremost exponents of Indian Classical Dance-Odissi here today. A statue has been unveiled on her 74th Birth anniversary in the premises of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre.
Sri Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister, Tourism & Culture unveiled the statue while MLAs Priyadarshi Mishra, Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena were present in the programme.
Sanjukta Panigrahi(1944-1997) started dancing at the age of 4 and consequently educated in Indian Classical Dance forms of Kathak, Bhrat Natyam and Odissi but embraced Odissi as her passion.
She had extensively traveled and received applause for her performances in USA, Philippines, United Kingdom, Greece, Israel and France etc. She was conferred Padmashree in 1975 and Sangeet Natak Akademy National Sward in 1976. She married celebrated singer Raghunath Panigrahi.
