Bhubaneswar : Odisha gets the Best State Award for its feats in skill development, but this time its newly constituted and coveted PM Award !The 2nd and the 3rdachievers in this category: Kerala & Andhra Pradesh are way below Odisha’s achievements in all the parameters.
In the quantitative scale, ORMAS covered 1/5thof the national target. Odisha, so far have trained 96,000 and have successfully created sustainable income source for 70,000 youth and also planning to cover another 1 Lakh youth in next 2 years. This resulted in attracting many reputed industry and institutes like Escorts,Tata’s West Side, GMR Group, Sahi Exports, Care Hospital group, Appolo Hospital and Gram Tarangetc for partnership with ORMAS in implementing the scheme.
Quantity through quality have been the mantra of ORMAS with out-of-the-box initiatives like having an active association of implementers, running systemic mobilization drives, establishing Placement Cell and Migration Support Centers, stringent evolution of implementing partners through Rating & Grading, Training of thousand Trainers by Australian experts etc.The presentation of the facts by ORMAS and Odisha Alumni at the Skilled-in-Odisha Conclave held recently in the national capital surprised, from policy makers to implementers.
While the country gears up for Skill Development at the call of the Prime Minister in 2015, ORMAS of Odisha’s PR & DW Dept started skill development much before in 2009, that’s how having required systems in place it leads the country. Frequently, teams from other state governments like Maharastra,Kerala,Uttar Pradesh,Bihar,Assam etc. visit Odisha to study best practices set by ORMAS.
In 2017,Govt of India felicitated ORMAS being the No.1 in the country during FY 2016-17 for all round implementation of India’s flagship Skill Development program:DDU-GKY. This year ORMAS could repeat the feats and get the PM Award as the “best state in skill development” crossing huddles of much strict selection procedures.
On 5th May’18,Prime Minister Sri NarendraModi will confer this award on Odisha in Ranchi on the eve of National Skill Day celebration.
