Odisha State Open University launches free online learning platform amidst lockdown

Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Open University (OSOU) has opened up all its learning resources free for those interested to learn online. The learning resources include study materials, video lectures, question banks, e-library and short term skill development programmes. These web-based resources are for Bachelor, Master, Post Graduate Diploma, Diploma and Certificate programmes. OSOU has adopted the common syllabus prepared by Odisha State Higher Education Department. These syllabuses are common for the students of regular universities. OSOU has also developed study materials for several disciplines including Odia, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Political Science, History, Sociology, Journalism and Mass Communication, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Management, Cyber Security, Rural Development, Disaster Management etc. OSOU has also made its Online Learning Platform ‘eGyanjyoti’ free for the next three months. The online skill development courses are already being offered to the undergraduate and post graduate student of seven universities in the state. This is the first time it has been opened to everyone and without any cost. Students can simply go to the website (www.osou.ac.in) of the university and start learning. If they wish, they can download the study materials. “This has always been our motto to take education to the door-steps of the learners and reach out the unreached” said Dr. Srikant Mohapatra, Vice-Chancellor of the university. In his appeal to the student community, Dr. Mohapatra has emphasized, to remain safe, follow government advisory and utilize time productively.
OSOU is a state funded open university established in 2015 by an Act of the Odisha State Legislature. The university has fifty five study centres spreading across all the districts of the state. Amidst the threat of the COVID-19 (corona virus) and the lockdown the faculty are working from home to make these learning resources available to the learners. Open University has made available best open source educational resources, both national and international, under one platform for easy navigation by students and knowledge seekers.
