Bhubaneswar: Former MLA and suspended Dhenkanal Congress district president Sudhir Samal joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Sunday. Sudhir and about 2,000 of his supporters were inducted into the BJD at a function at the Naveen Niwas here.
Inducting Samal into the party, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Glad that more than 2,000 workers and leaders of Congress under leadership of former MLA Sudhir Samal have joined BJD today. This will strengthen the party.”
In his reaction, Samal said that he chose to join BJD as he was impressed with the functioning of the BJD under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik. Several workers and leaders of the Congress were dissatisfied due to the infighting in the party.
