Balangir: Senior leader Basudev Pati quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here on Sunday.
Pati, a two-time BJP candidate from Balangir, joined the BJD in the presence of party State vice-president AU Singh Deo and Balangir MLA candidate Arkesh Narayan Singh Deo at Sibtala in the district.
The BJD would be strengthened in the district with the joining of Pati, said AU Singh Deo.
Notably, Pati had contested twice on the BJP ticket from the Balangir Assembly constituency in the 2009 and 2014 elections. However, he was defeated by BJD’s AU Singh Deo in 2009 polls and also lost to Congress’ Narasingha Mishra in the 2014 elections.
