Dubai: Odisha Samaj United Arab Emirates (OSUAE), the largest organisation of Non-Resident Odias in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region is organising its ‘Utkal Divas’ celebrations – ‘UTSAV-2017’ on the 28th of April in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A part of Dubai will be transformed into a ‘Mini-Odisha’ on the 28th of April. The evening which promises to witness an explosion of Odia culture, music, songs, dances etc. will start with an invocation to Lord Jagannath. It will be followed by the singing of the iconic Odia patriotic poem written by Kantakabi Laxmikanta Mohapatra – ‘Bande Utkala Janani’. Odissi dance performances and performances by non-resident Odia children on traditional Odia songs will be among the several highlights of the program. A sumptuous dinner comprising of several Odia delicacies will follow. More than 500 people are expected to join in the celebrations along with with special invitees from neighbouring countries.
The Chief Guest in this year’s celebrations will be Shri Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha). Mr. Vipul, the Consul General of India, Dubai will the Special Guest.
On this occasion, OSUAE will be releasing its annual souvenir cum magazine (bilingual-in Odia and English) that will contain literary contributions from the members of the Odia community of the UAE about Odisha and its personalities, among other topics.
Odisha Samaj UAE (OSUAE) is a Social Organization comprising of people from the state of Odisha who are residing in the UAE. OSUAE is very active in the social and cultural realm and organizes many socio-cultural events and get-togethers every year. Through its activities, it tries to keep all the Odias together and tries to keep them connected to their motherland. It is also involved in helping the Odia fraternity, both in UAE and Odisha. OSUAE organizes several festivals (Sri Jagannath Rath Yatra & Sri Ganesh Puja) and cultural events. ‘Utkal Divas’ celebrations is the biggest event and the entire community joins in celebrating it. Local talent (both adults and kids) are involved in its functions and OSUAE provides a platform for them to showcase their talents and abilities. Competitions for kids, picnics etc. are also organised and these increase the level of bonding that the community has. In addition to this, OSUAE also regularly organises Blood Donation camps and Medical check-up camps as a part of its social outreach initiatives.`
