Bhubaneswar: 1st of January each year is observed as the Public Domain Day with the aim of providing free access to information to general public. Sri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Odisha, had already shown the way in this regard by declaring his own social media handles as well as CMO handles as copyright free in the month of September 2017, so that everyone including students, media and common people can use the contents freely.
Following the actions taken by Chief Minister, today, on occasion of Public Domain Day, similar steps have been taken by the Information & Public Relations Department and the ST and SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department of Government of Odisha. As per the decisions taken by these two departments, the website and social media feeds such as Facebook and Twitter, of both these departments, are now being licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. This means that henceforth all the content on the website and social media accounts of Information and Public Relations Department and ST and SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department are now free for public usage. This includes photographs, videos, government publications and much more.
This is in continuation with State Government’s principles of Teamwork, Transparency & Technology for bringing about Transformation. Request for same has been made to wikimedia.org in this regard.
