Bhubaneswar: The Adoption Awareness Week Programme, 2018 was organised by State Adoption Resource Agency, Department of Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti in the conference hall of Mission Shakti.
The objective of the Awareness programme is to highlight the process of adoption and rights of the children. To encourage the process of adoption, State Adoption Resource Agency felicitated a number of successful adoptive parents on this occasion. Adoptive parents, representatives of Specialised Adoption Agency and District Child Protection Officers were present in the programme. Apart from that representatives of different departments also participated in the programme.
The ceremonial lamp was lit by a girl child in the presence of her adoptive parents and the dignitaries. Some of the parents narrated the story of how they made the decision to adopt a child, the process they went through and the immense happiness that had come into their lives after the arrived of the child who by now had become truly their own. One of the parents said that he and his wife had made a conscious decision to adopt a girl child. The child also spoke of her school, her favourite subject in school and the little joys in her life. Children from the CCI in Cuttack, International Indecency Prevention Movement, presented a scintillating dance performance leaving the audience spellbound.
Sri Prafulla Samal, Minister, WCD & Mission Shakti, SSEPD, MSME appreciated the participation of parents and children in the programme. He emphasized on the progress
of the adoption process through out the state. He also specially appreciated those parents who had made the decision to adopt a girl child. Smt. Anu Garg, Principal Secretary, W&CD and MS in her address highlighted that the process of adoption should be done in a rightful way and congratulated all the parents for
their wonderful decision to adopt a child. She also said that every effort should be made for de-institutionalisation and every child so that a child may get the opportunity to grow up in a family.
Sri Reghu G, Director, ICDS & Social Welfare in his welcome address spoke on the objectives of the programme and process of adoption in a nutshell.
Ms. Quamar Sultana Begum, Member Secretary, Odisha State Council for Child Welfare in her address highlighted the role of adoptive parents towards the children. She called upon the parents to ensure that no discrimination should be there between the adoptive child and biological child. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Smt Sujata Mohanty, Programme Officer, SARA.
