Bhubaneswar: Odisha government issues advisory to ban use of single-use plastics immediately by all departments; says “it has now become imperative to immediately to make all govt offices free of single-use plastic.”

General Administration and Home Secretary Sanjeev Chopra has issued the order in this regard. Chopra, while issuing an advisory to the Secretaries of the departments, has said, “There shall be no use of PET water bottles, plastic cups and plates in the offices and in course of official meetings.”

He pointed out that since water purifiers have been installed in different offices, the officers and staffs are advised to take water for their use by using stainless steel or glass bottles. The same practice shall also to be followed for official meetings, during which glass bottles and paper cups can be used.

Chopra has categorically advised that no plastic folders or flex banners shall be used in day-to-day official work, meetings and functions.

The departments concerned shall explore sustainable alternatives in this regard, said he.

IEC activities are to be undertaken to sensitise the officers and staffs regarding the ban on use of single-use plastics in their respective departments, he said.
