Odisha: Illegal transfer of Govt land detected in Ghatgaon tehsil; Action initiated after public complaint

Report by Malaya Mohapatra, Keonjhar: A govt land besides the National Highway measuring 32 decimals was illegally settled in the name of Jaylaxmi Singh, Wife of Prafulla Singh of village Lagangalkanti in Ghatgaon Block by the concerned Tehsildar in 2009. The plot no- 1211 in Khata-147 in Tikiria Mouza was shown encroached by Mrs Singh and the said plot was transferred to her name claiming that she was a landless tribal and her annual income was below 14,000 rupees only. She even succeeded in claiming a good compensation from the National Highway when they acquisitioned the land. But some local people filed a complaint against this illegality on 30/07/2015 but the matter was kept suppressed. Finally after a recent inquiry by Sub collector Keonjhar it was revealed that her family was in procession of 12.2 acres of land and her husband Prafulla Singh works as the branch manager of State bank of India, Kuntalpeda Branch, Rayagada having a good salary income. But ignoring the facts, the tehsildar had transferred 32 decimals of Govt land to wealthy Jaylaxmi. So the Sub collector has ordered to cancel the patta ROR and restore the land back to Govt. But no action has been initiated against the officials involved in the illegal act.
