Bhubaneswar: Pending works of Gurupriya bridge will be completed by April 15. This was informed by the Works minister Prafulla Mallik. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to inaugurate Jharsuguda-Rourkela Biju Express way on March 12: Works minister Prafulla Mallik after a review meeting.
It should be noted that Foundation stone for Gurupriya bridge in Maoists-affected Malkangiri district was laid 34 years back. Though the State Government has set a target to complete the construction work by September, 2017, but due to the collapse of the slabs the deadline extended. Foundation stone for the bridge over Gurupriya river was first laid in 1982 by the then Chief Minister JB Patnaik. However, the project has remained incomplete till today.
Kolkata-based Royal Infraconstru Limited is constructing the 910-metre-length Gurupriya bridge.
Once completed, the bridge would provide road connectivity to the cut-off Chitrakonda area housing 25,000 tribal people living in nearly 150 villages.
