Bhubaneswar: The State Government appointed 172 dental surgeons on Sunday. For the first time, such a large number of dentists have been appointed in the state. Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had approved a proposal in this regard as the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) had recommended for recruitment of 172 dental surgeons through its proper process. The dental surgeons are appointed in the rank of Group A (Junior) of the Odisha Medical and Health Services (Dental) Cadre under the Health & Family Welfare Department. They are entitled to a scale of pay of Rs 56,100 as per the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations with allowances as admissible and sanctioned by the State Government from time to time.
Department Secretary Dr PK Meherda asked these surgeons tojoin within 30 days from the date of issue of the notification on October 14. Out of the surgeon, there are 106 female and 66 male candidates. Modern dental care equipments are being arranged by the Odisha State Medical Corporation and are placed in the medical centres, said an official. In 2016, the Government had appointed 151 dental surgeons in the undivided Kalahandi-Balangir-Koraput (KBK) districts.
