Bhubaneswar: State Congress leaders on Sunday held a meeting at the residence of Leader of the Opposition Narasingha Mishra here and discussed about the presidential election scheduled for Monday. This was informed by the Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das.
He said, “As per the instructions of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, all the MLAs and leaders have been directed to have a single opinion and choose Congress candidate Meira Kumar in the Presidential election. The party has taken a stand, and we are making all possible efforts to ensure that Meira Kumar wins.”
The leaders unanimously pledged their support for the UPA’s candidate Meira Kumar. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed the local unit to maintain party affiliations and sent AICC observer Siddharth Patel to negotiate between the MLAs and PCC members here. Besides the MLAs, senior party leaders and observers were also present at the meeting.
