Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister of Odisha, Sri Naveen Pattnaik today inaugurated the free LED Bulb Distribution Scheme of Energy Department “Ama Ghare LED “at Secretariat through Video Conferencing. According to provision of the Scheme, 04 Nos of 9 Watt LED bulbs will be distributed to each beneficiary registered under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and State Food Security Scheme (SFSS). Around 95 Lakhs such Hoseholds will be benefited under this Free LED Bulb distribution scheme. The backdrop of the formulation of such scheme is due to non-availability of low cost LED Bulbs in Rural Markets of Odisha for which consumers have been using the ordinary high watt bulbs which consumes more electricity with more charges. Further, the Energy demand of the State is highly influenced by such high watt consumption.
Considering above scenario, the department of Energy under the able leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Odisha has come up with this Free LED distribution scheme. OPTCL being the Nodal Organization will be implementing this scheme and bulbs will be distributed through DISCOMs at PDS outlets and Gram Panchayats. Beneficiaries may collect the bulbs by giving their biometric authentication at said places. Energy Minister Sri Susant Singh thanked Sri Hemant Sharma, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Energy and his team for their valuable inputs for encapsulating the Scheme that would bring positive change in the consumer behaviour of the State towards use of electricity efficient LED bulbs. This would definitely help in controlling the energy requirement of the state.
