Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the book ’80 Years of Odisha Budget’, a compilation of all state budgets since the first in 1936. Odisha is the first state in country to bring out such a compilation like this that records its changing socio-economic, political and cultural landscapes through lens of Budget.
The first budget in 1936-37 focused on transforming the socio-economic condition of the newly formed province, summed up to ₹1.77 crore. Since then, it has grown at compound annual growth rate of 15% to ₹1,06,910 crore in 2017-18 and grew further to ₹1,20,028 crore in 2018-19.
In 2013-14, the state adopted a separate Agriculture Budget and a separate Agriculture Cabinet in 2015 to emphasize on agriculture and farmers’ empowerment through improved agricultural practices.
Chief Minister stated that many milestones have been achieved in the last eighty years and called for constant efforts from all stakeholders to keep up with the growing aspirations of people and build a better future.
