Kendrapada: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announces 33% quota for women in allocation of Lok Sabha seats for the BJD party. CM Naveen Patnaik said this at Mission Shakti convention in Kendrapada.
CM Naveen Patnaik said 33% quota for women in allocation of Lok Sabha seats for the BJD party in the upcoming general election at Kendrapara ‘Mission Shakti’ women’s conclave. It means BJD will field women in 7 of 21 LS seats.
“I am delighted to be in Kendrapara today. Here, I have announced 33% reservation for women in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections,” Patnaik said.”Biju Babu pioneered 33% reservation for women in PRIs & later increased to 50%, will lead the way for Women Empowerment in India,” said CM Naveen Patnaik.
Addressing Mission Shakti’s women SHG members at Kendrapara, he underpinned the leadership role of Odisha and BijuBabu in securing rights of women & genderequality. He hailed One Third Women Sansad From Odisha as a historic moment in journey of Women Empowerment in India.
Last year in November, the Odisha Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution seeking 33% reservation for women in legislative assemblies and Parliament.
Chief Minister Patnaik had said Odisha must show its commitment and resolve to the entire country that it is the land where women are truly empowered and truly involved in nation-building. The United Nations had complimented Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his government’s proposal. The compliment came from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
