New Delhi: Senior Odisha-Cadre IAS officer Upendra Prasad Singh has been appointed as Secretary of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
He has also been given additional charge of CEO of the National Mission for Clean Ganga. The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) has brought out a notification in this regard.
The 1985-batch IAS officer was Additional Secretary MoWR and Director General in the National Mission for Clean Ganga.
Singh is known for his knowledge in the water resources sector as he served as Water Resources Principal Secretary in Odisha for a long period.
Singh, being an Odisha-Cadre officer, is expected to do a lot for the State as Odisha is facing a tough time due to the Chhattisgarh Government setting up dams on river Mahanadi.
The Odisha Government has been urging the MoWR to set up a tribunal to sort out the Mahanadi water dispute.
Besides, the Odisha Government has been urging the Centre to order stoppage of the construction of the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh.
