NITI Aayog lauded Odisha’s decentralised model of production and distribution in SNP through SHGs

Bhubaneswar: Niti Aayog, Government of India has lauded Odisha’s decentralised model of production and distribution under Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) through Women Self help Groups. In a letter to the Chief  Secretaries/Administrators of States and Union Territories about the best practices in implementation of SNP, the Chief Executive Officer of Niti Aayog, Sri Amitabh Kant has stated that decentralised model of SNP production and distribution through greater engagement with SHGs in Odisha and Kerala has brought in greater transparency and efficiency through elimination of middlemen. It has empowered women SHGs and given a new source of income to them, he further added.
He has requested other States to adopt these models in order to achieve significant progress towards ensuring health and nutrition of women and children.
It is noteworthy of mentioning that Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti Department in State Government has engaged women SHGs for preparation and packaging of Take Home Ration (THR) under Supplementary Nutrition programme with fixed day approach. Under THR, Chhatua is mixed on 23rd of every month and is being distributed to beneficiaries on 1st day of the month. The whole process and supply chain management is being centrally monitored by ‘Mo Chhatua’ App and Website. This has transferred the previous practice and brought in innovative approach in implementing the SNP in the State, especially in rural and inaccessible
areas.
