Bhubaneswar: National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), the education and training arm of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Government of India, is going to set up its own campus in Odisha. The Government of Odisha through OCAC has provided free built up space to NIELIT, measuring about 7100 sq.ft. at OCAC Tower located at Acharya Vihar for establishing the new NIELIT Centre in the State. In addition, Govt. of Odisha is providing land to NIELIT at Info-City or at a suitable place for setting up its own campus.
In this context, a MoU was signed on Friday 12th May, 2017 between NIELIT and OCAC in the august presence of Sri Ashok K.K. Meena, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Electronics & IT, Sri R.N. Palai, ITS, Special Secretary, Electronics & Information Technology Department, Government of Odisha, Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Director General, NIELIT, Shri B. N. Choudhary, Addl. Director, NIELIT and other dignitaries. Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Director General, NIELIT complimented the support and cooperation of Govt. of Odisha in speedy allotment of the above space and promised to operationalize the centre in a very short time. The newly set up NIELIT centre will enhance the Capacity Building and Skill Development of youth in the state of Odisha. NIELIT has a Pan India presence through its 36 own Centres and about 9000 training partners. The courses offered by NIELIT are NSQF aligned and free for SC/ST candidates.
Shri Ashok Meena, Secretary, Electronics & Information Technology Department, Government of Odisha congratulated NIELIT for establishing a new Centre at Bhubaneshwar and observed that till the new centre of NIELIT comes up at OCAC tower, a suitable facility may be provided to NIELIT to commence its activities. He desired that NIELIT would develop the Bhubaneshwar centre as a Centre of Excellence in any suitable IT/ITES area like Cyber Security, VLSI etc., to enhance the skill and employability of the youth in the state. The expertise available at the new NIELIT Centre shall also be used to roll out of Capacity Building projects planned by the State Govt. as well as Govt. of India.
A Meeting was also held with about 30 Training Partners in the State under chairmanship of Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Director General, NIELIT to speed up implementation and roll out of Government Schemes and Policies, such as Digital India, Skill India, Make-In-India, Start-Up India, GST Training etc. Chairing the meeting, DG NIELIT said that concerted efforts are required to empower the educated unemployed youth through industry oriented employable courses in Electronics and IT.
In another meeting held with DG NIELIT, Shri Sanjay Singh, IAS, Commissioner-Cum-Secretary, Skill Development and Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha expressed his pleasure with regard to the setting up of a new NIELIT Centre in Bhubaneshwar.
