Bhubaneswar:Newly appointed DGP RP Sharma meets Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik at State Secretariat. The State’s newly-appointed DG of Police Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma assumed charge here at the police headquarters on Thursday.
He said he would sincerely work to make the police very people-friendly and responsive and give a humane face to the 70,000-strong force.
Stating that all aspects of policing are now very challenging, he said cyber crime and security to senior citizens would be the main focus during his tenure.
Like all his recent predecessors, DGP Sharma too emphasised that the police would continue to counter the Maoist menace in the State with a strong hand under a new strategy being well-equipped with advanced technology.
The 57-year-old officer was officiating as DG of State Vigilance Directorate prior to his new assignment.
An MBBS and a law degree-holder, Sharma, a native of Ajmer in Rajasthan, took charge as the top cop from KB Singh, who was transferred to a non-policing organisation, the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) as its CMD.
