Bhubaneswar: Rather than just being second line of defence, NCC syllabus lays greater stress on developing quality of leadership and grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. It also gives greater importance to areas like social service and youth management. The NCC has not only given strength to our nation, it has also given character. In living up to its motto ‘Unity & Discipline’, the NCC strives to be and is one of the greatest cohesive forces of the nation. Unequivocally, we can be proud that the NCC is a success story, said Governor, Dr. S.C. Jamir.
Inaugurating golden jubilee celebration of 1 (Odisha) R & V Squadron, NCC in Swaminathan Hall at OUAT, Governor said the National Cadet Corps embodies fully the values important for our nation’s unity. There is no better training ground for the responsibilities that await our youth.
The progress of the Squadron in the last 50 years has been remarkable. As one looks back, it is amazing how much it has progressed. It has identified itself with many laurels, glories, honours and achievements at both personal and Unit level. And it would not have been possible without that special ingredient called the “pioneering spirit” forged by the dedication and commitment of successive Officers, trainers and of course the cadets as learners. One of the best ways to recount the events to is by breathing and reliving the amazing journey Governor noted.
Appreciating girls doing excellent work on riding horses, Governor urged more girls to come forward and join the Unit and enjoy the thrill as a proud member of NCC and experience a life of camaraderie, adventure and discipline.
