Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Mines, Govt of India, has bagged the Swachh Bharat Award during the National Swachhata Summit-2019, held in New Delhi recently. The award has been conferred on NALCO for Sanitation-Infrastructure Building & School Sanitation Initiatives. It may be mentioned that as a PSU-partner in Govt’s Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, NALCO constructed 479 toilets in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, resulting in enrolment and attendance enhancement of students in rural and tribal area schools. NALCO has always been the flag bearer of the Govt. welfare schemes. NALCO has now taken up the project to make the remote villages of Damanjodi and Angul Open Defecation Free. Also, as an active partner in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the company has been undertaking year-round cleanliness drives. NALCO, with a view to ensure plastic-free environment, has promoted the usage of cloth bags and paper bags. The company is also encouraging schools and students to promote cleanliness by providing financial incentives under the Gulgul-Kunmun Award scheme. Also, under Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Mission and Iconic Shrine Development Programme, the company has taken up several CSR projects for comprehensive development of the holy city Puri. Under this programme, NALCO has installed drinking water kiosks for pilgrims in Puri, taken up the renovation of Gandhi Park as a clean and green park and a major tourist attraction and carried out extensive beautification of the shrine city. On the occasion, NALCO’s CMD Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand was also conferred with the CSR Leadership Award in recognition of his initiatives to make CSR a part of the organizational culture of NALCO. Under his leadership, NALCO has successfully implemented schemes like NALCO ki Ladli for the education of meritorious girls from BPL families in line with the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme of Govt of India. The company is also carrying out various CSR activities under Indradhanush for providing quality education of children from tribal areas of the state , Integrated Health Services, Skill Development, infrastructure development etc.
