Bhopal: The unprecedented attack of Covid-19, has posed a challenge for those who are daily wagers. With the formation of the new government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on March 23, 2020, the government began efforts to get rid of Corona and to provide work to the needy persons.
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MPNREGA) has proved to be a boon in this time of unemployment. The Panchayat and Rural Development Department has started employment oriented activities of MNREGA in the state in the remaining gram panchayats except Corona infected areas from April 20, in which one lakh 25 thousand 61 works have been started in 22 thousand 70 gram panchayats. Of these, 11 lakh 25 thousand 893 workers are getting employment every day and this chain continues.
23 thousand women engaged in mask production
Women are getting employment at home, due to the process of manufacturing home made masks in urban and rural areas of the state. Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Mission has also been playing a significant role in providing employment in rural areas. The unique experiment of engaging women of self-help groups in activities like making of home-made masks, sanitizers, PPE kits, hand soap was done in Madhya Pradesh. More than 7 lakh masks, over 58 thousand litres of sanitizer, 9 thousand litres of hand wash and about 1.5 lakh soaps have been produced by 13 thousand women members of about 5 thousand self-help groups in the state. Similarly, women have also been linked with the task of making masks in urban areas through the “Jeevan-Shakti” scheme. Under the scheme, more than 10 thousand women have started production by registering online. These products have been made available in the market by the state government. The goods produced by these groups is being provided to the workers engaged in the war against Corona, including police personnel, medical staff and MNREGA workers. In a new experiment, women self help groups have been connected in wheat procurement work which was started on April 15, in 5 districts giving them new employment opportunities.
Along with the organized efforts launched in the state, facilities like supply of essential goods through home delivery to common people in urban areas have also helped in providing employment to the needy. The procurement of wheat started in the state from April 15 has also become a major source of employment. In this, one and a half to two lakh people have been directly and indirectly connected with employment activities. The state government has also decided to provide employment by starting economic activities in the state soon. Tendu Patta collection and construction activities are also being started soon in forest areas.
With these efforts, the Madhya Pradesh government is successfully in instilling confidence in the hearts of the needy that even in such times, it stands firmly with the common man.
