Bhubaneswar: Ramakrushna Sikhya Kendra scripted a thumping 3-0 win over St Xavier’s High School, Khandagiri in their Group-F match of the MCL Cup 29th Bhubaneswar Inter-School Football Tournament here at Unit-VI Boys’ High School Ground today.
Baidyanath Murmu gave them an early lead, scoring the first goal in the third minute. Deepak Soren made it 2-0 in the 35th minute, while Dularam Soren netted the third goal in the 47th minute. Dularam was adjudged the player of the match and he received the prize from former Odisha Santosh Trophy footballer Bilash Kumar Behera.
Earlier in the day, Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School (BJEMS) fought back to hold Sai International School to 1-1 draw in their Group-E match, which had been abandoned due to thundershower three days ago with Sai International leading 1-0 at the half-way stage.
Soon after the match resumed, Smruti Swagat Nayak scored the equalizer for BJEM School to brighten their chances for a quarterfinal berth. The vital goal fetched Smruti the player of the match prize, which he received from senior athletics coach Nilamadhab Deo.
Today’s matches were officiated by match commissioner Maheswar Singh along with referees Saroj Moharana, Sekhawat Khan, Rajendra Barik, Chandrakant Barik and Bulbul Bhoi. The tournament is being organised by Unit-VI Athletic Association.
Tomorrow’s matches (Aug 21):
First match: Vikash Residential School vs St Xavier’s High School, Kedargouri (2.30 PM).
Second match: Govt Boys’High School, Unit-2 vs Stewart School (3.45 PM)
