Bhopal : In a meeting of the Board of Directors of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company Limited held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the proposal to change the name of “Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company Limited” to “Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited” was now granted due approval. A tripartite MoU was signed between the Government of India, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company Limited on August 19, 2019, in connection with changing the company to board.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan instructed that the upcoming actions in this regard should be completed with promptness, so that the work of Metro Rail in Indore-Bhopal cities of the state can be completed speedily in the targeted 3 to 4 years. Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Bhupendra Singh, Chief Secretary Shri Iqbal Singh Bains, Principal Secretary Finance Shri Manoj Govil, MD of the company Shri Nitesh Vyas were present at the meeting.
New board to have five directors
MD Shri Nitesh Vyas informed that according to the tripartite agreement, the new board being formed for equal participation in the project of the Government of India and the Government of Madhya Pradesh, will include five Directors of Government of India and five Directors (including Managing Director) of the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Commissioner Urban Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh will be its Managing Director and Principal Secretary Finance, Revenue, Public Works Department and Urban Development Department will be its directors.
Action to declare metropolitan area
It is necessary to declare the metro construction area as metropolitan area for metro rail construction, under the Metro Rail Acts of the Government of India. In this connection, decision was taken related to action to be taken to declare Indore and Bhopal metro areas as “metropolitan areas”.
Latest status of Bhopal, Indore metro project
After the approval of Madhya Pradesh government on January 12, 2017, the work of Bhopal-Indore Metro Rail Project was started by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company Limited.
The Bhopal-Indore metro project was granted approval by the Public Investment Board (PIB) on September 11, 2018 and Central Cabinet on October 3, 2018.
The tripartite agreement was signed between Government of India, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company Limited on August 19, 2019.
The foundation stone of the Indore Metro Rail Project was laid on September 14, 2019.
The foundation stone of the Bhopal Metro Rail Project was laid on September 26, 2019.
Loan (total proposal – Rs 3493.34 crore) for Bhopal Metro was approved by “European Investment Bank” on November 14, 2019 and financial agreement in this connection was executed on December 10, 2019.
On December 2, 2019, “New Development Bank” approved the loan (total proposal – Rs. 3 thousand 200 crore) for Indore Metro Project.
On December 22, 2017, M/s DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH (Germany) and its associate companies M/s Louis Berger SAS (USA) and M/s Geo Data Engineering SPA (Italy) were made the general consultants of the project.
Contract agreement was signed for the first civil work of Bhopal and Indore Metro on November 1, 2018. According to this, 6.22 km long viaduct (railway bridge) will be constructed under Bhopal Metro at a cost of Rs 247 crore 6 lakh and under Indore Metro work, 5.29 km long viaduct (railway bridge) will be constructed at a cost of Rs 228 crore 96 lakh.
