Barbil: In an effort to enhance skills of local women and make them self-reliant, Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), Barbil recently started a tailoring training centre at Gobardhanpur village under Deojhar gram panchayat of Keonjhar district. The centre was inaugurated by JSPL’s Barbil Unit Head Shri G Suresha in the presence of other company officials, local elected representatives and members of self-help groups (SHGs).
The free training centre is established as a part of the company’s Women Empowerment programmes under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Suresha said, “We are glad to inaugurate the tailoring training centre which will not only make them self-reliant but also empower them to contribute to their family earnings”.
“Tailoring is something, which women can start immediately right from their homes upon completion of the training programme. They can continue their traditional role as a homemaker and yet earn”, he pointed out.
To start with, JSPL has appointed a trainer and provided six number sewing machines and all related equipments to the centre. In next six months, the company aims to train about 100 women of the periphery villages. On successful completion of the course, the trainees will be market linked for selling their products and earn an additional income for their families.
In the inaugural event among others Shri BB Pradhan, AVP and Head (HR & ES); Shri Mangal Munda, Sarpanch, Deojhar grampanchayat; Judhisthir Palei, Samiti Member and around 60 women SHG members were present.
JSPL, pursuant to its CSR mission has been implementing multifaceted sustainable rural livelihood options programme around all its business locations under the anvil of JSPL Foundation to enable the rural women to generate supplementary income for their families using indigenous resources and imparted capacity building programme.
