• 10 firms have shown interest to invest in state agri sector
• Odisha has 61.80 lakh hectares cultivated land
• 90% farmers are small and marginal farmers
Bhubaneswar: MSME minister of the state urges to make Krushak Mela more informative for the farmers and also proposes that eminent specialist of agriculture sector should be part of these melas and they must tell farmers about important aspects of farming in local languages so that farmer can understand everything easily.Today, talking at the concluding session of TOP (Tomato, Onion and Potato) Expo and Summit organized jointly by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Department, Government of Odisha at Hotel Swosti premium, he said that, “Krushak Mela has been organized every districts. But participation of farmers is very low. We have to make these melas more informative for farmers. I suggest that, agriculture specialist should join these melas and tell farmers about important aspects of farming.”He informs that, Odisha has around 61.80 hectares of total cultivated land and 90% of farming community is small and marginal farmers. Govt of Odisha has taken various measures for the development of agriculture and allied sectors. Budgetary outlay of agriculture & allied sectors has increased from Rs 7162 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 14930 crore during 2017-18. He added.
In the B2B meeting organised yesterday, around 10 firms and companies have shown their interest to invest in the agriculture sector of Odisha Premier Irrigation adritech ltd, Keventer Agro, Samvi Hi-Fresh Foods, Tirupati Exports, Dynamic Agri consultant, arrangefresh.com and Safal have shown interest to invest in the agri and food sector. Development Commissioner of the state, Mr. Asit Tripathy calls for rotation farming in the state. He urges farmers to produce exportable agriculture commodity. Those villages have better connectivity with big towns; those areas farmers should try to tap nearest big markets to make their income sustainable.Director of Agricultural Marketing, Odisha Mr. Ravindra Pratap Singh talks about the importance of market linkage for farm produces. He said that, government now focuses more on contract farming, storage facility and direct market linkage.Mr. Sriram Panda, convener, Indian Chamber of Commerce proposes vote of thanks. He informs that 35 eminent speakers spoke on different topics in two days. 600 farmers, 50 FPOs and 20 trader’s organizations and 30 NGOs participated in this two days event.
