Bhubaneswar: Dr Pramoda Kumar Sahoo, Principal Scientist & National Fellow, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar has been bestowed with the prestigious ICAR National Professor recognition from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Dr Sahoo is a world-renowned researcher, working in the fish health management research for the past three decades. He was one among the Stanford University’s Top 2% Scientists List for the Year 2020 and 2021. Through his research he is trying the find solutions for the Argulosis, which is the most challenging issue in aquaculture across the globe. With the National Professorship, he will upscale his research efforts with the special project titled “ Multifaceted approaches towards preventing/control of Argulosis in Carp farming with special reference to development of novel vaccine candidate(s)” This appointment makes him into elite list of ten such chairs instituted by the ICAR across the country and he is the third fisheries scientist to get this coveted position within the National Agriculture Research System and the first to be within the ICAR fisheries institutions. Upon his achievement, he was felicitated by the institute in a special ceremony. Dr Saroj Kumar Swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA congratulated him for his achievement and told “It is a rare honor for the institute as well as the fisheries fraternity”.
