Bhubaneswar: ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar today observed 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation. In order to create awareness about cleanliness and plastic waste management, “Swachhata Hi Seva” programme was started on 11th Sept and it came to an end on 02nd Oct. Several cleaning and awareness programmes were organized in nearby schools and public places about plastic waste management. Campaigns and rallies were also conducted in Astaranga; Dhauli and Uttara Chhak to educate the common men about the perils of single use plastic.Various competitive events like Debate, Sit & Draw, Essay writing were held for the school students on the theme Gandhiji – his life and teachings.
The event was attended by several eminent personalities. Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, Hon’ble, MP (Lok Sabha), Bhubaneswar, graced the occasion as chief guest. Dr Dillip Srichandan, Chairman, Prerana and Noted Gandhian Shri Prahallad Kumar Sinha were guests of honour. The meeting was attended by over 200 people comprising scientists, farmers and the school students from six neighbouring high schools. Dr. B.R.Pillai, Director, ICAR-CIFA welcomed the guests and gave an overview of the programme. Sri Nitish Kumar Chandan, Chairman, Swachh Bharat Aviyaan Committee made a brief presentation regarding the “Swachhata Hi Seva” (11 Sept-02 Oct, 2019) activities carried out by the Institute.
Dr Dilip Srichandan, Chairman, Prerana, Bhubaneswar spoke on Plastic Waste Management. He called for mass movement for banning the use of single use plastic. Noted Gandhian Shri Prahlad Sinha spoke on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. He urged the students and other people present to follow the path of Satya and Ahimsa. The Chief Guest gave away the certificates to the school children. In her address the MP said ‘in order to fulfil the Mahatma’s dream of Swachh Bharat, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister had launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan on 02 Oct 2014. The Abhiyaan aimed at involving people from all strata of the society towards making India clean. This would be a true tribute to Mahatma on his 150th birthday’. She expressed happiness that ICAR-CIFA has organised several events, activities, campaigns to create awareness about this mission.
