Gopalpur: Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy has expressed satisfaction over the investment plan and projects envisioned by Gopalpur Port authorities in coming years. Mr.Tripathy recently chaired a review meeting on various issues related to developmental activities of Gopalpur Port.
Principal Secretary Commerce & Transport Madhusudan Padhi, Principal Secretary Finance, Ashok Kumar Meena, Principal Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management BishnupadaSethi, Secretary Works Krishan Kumar, Secretary Fisheries & ARD R Raghu Prasad, Special Secretary Commerce & Transport Manoj Kumar Mishra, District Collector Ganjam Vijay AmrutaKulange and other senior officers were present in the meeting held through videoconferencing recently.
Managing Director Gopalpur Port Limited (GPL) Amit Saboo briefed the Chief Secretary in details about the ongoing activities of GPL and future investment on industrialization in the periphery of Gopalpur Port.
While a Liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Gopalpur Port has been envisioned, investment of Rs 2000 crore for setting up fertilizer/ petrochemical industries has been planned.
Similarly, an edible oil refinery is also on cards, officials said.
The issue of capping on transportation of iron ores to Gopalpur Port came up during the discussion, and Chief Secretary Mr.Tripathy desired that artificial capping by Deputy Director Mines should stop.
Notably, while there are no restrictions on the loading of trucks from mines of the State for Vishakhapatnam and Gangavaram Ports in Andhra Pradesh there is a restriction on loading for GPL.
As a result, the exporters are facing tough time and stiff competition and there will be huge loss of foreign exchange earnings to the nation also.
The Chief Secretary asked the officials to take up the issue with the Department of Steel and Mines in this regard.
Chief Executive Officer Gopalpur Port Limited SandeepAgarwal made a Power-Point presentation presenting the ongoing activities in the COVID-19 Pandemic and he also outlined the expansion proposals.
GPL requires 1200 Acres of land and so far 393 acres has been allotted to them and they have requested for another parcel of 800 Acres. Department of Revenue and Disaster Management has recently favored a parcel of 119 Acres in favor of
GPL, which will be soon executed, officials informed.
Road and Rail Connectivity issues were discussed at length and Special Secretary Commerce and Transport, Manoj Kumar Mishra gave out details.
Mr.Tripathy appreciated GPL efforts in scaling up exports from the state and as Chairman of the State Export Promotion Committee; he is formulating a New Export Policy with a vision to achieve the export turnover of One Lakh Crore by 2025.
He stressed upon boosting the export-related activities and advised that the issues relating to the development of Ports are to be sorted out on priority basis.
