Report by Badal Tah; Rayagada: Regional Environment cum Mineral Awareness Program (EMAP) was organized at the Baphlimali bauxite mines of Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL) by the Society of Geo-scientists & Allied Technologists, Bhubaneswar with great joy and enthusiasm.
The program was designed for students of Higher Secondary standard with an objective to sensitize them about the need of protection of our natural resources and also to educate them on safeguarding environment through appropriate measures.
The students of nearby schools participated in the said program and got an opportunity to see mining operation there. During the program, they learnt about the role of mining activities in the economic development of our state, best practices in connection to mineral conservation, need of afforestation in mining activities etc. The programme was comprised of different competitions like essay writing, quiz etc. among the students on environment and mines related subjects.
With his motivational words, Mr N Nagesh, Unit Head & President, UAIL praised this noble initiative of the SG&AT, Bhubaneswar and stressed upon the importance of holding such programs to create awareness among the young minds towards safeguarding our environment and natural resources.
The program was graced by Mr. AB Panigrahi Ex-Controller, IBM as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Mr. Mukesh Jha GM Mines, UAIL, Mr. Krishna Yotish AGM Geology, UAIL and the Mines Team.
At the end, prizes were distributed among the winners of the different competitions. The local public applauded such approach of the company.
