Rayagada: A jawan of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) was killed in a landmine explosion near Sakata village under the Muniguda police limits in Rayagada district late on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Majhi (22) of Ambadola village in the district.
According to reports, the blast took place while an anti-Maoist combing operation was underway in Niyamgiri. Majhi sustained grievous injuries in the landmine explosion and died on the way to hospital, a senior police official said.
A guard of honour was accorded to the martyr at the district police headquarters, following which his body was taken to his native place for last rites. The combing operation has been intensified in the area by security forces.
