Bhubaneswar: India’s leading sprinter Dutee Chand has expressed her anguish over publication of a news piece regarding receipt of Asiad Cash Award. She has spoken that she has already received her Asiad Cash Prize Award amounting 3 crore announced by the State Government. But, it was unfortunate the fact given in a news item published in sports page of a national English daily that she has not received it.
Dutee has expressed her concern that it was reported in the paper that she has not received the cash prize being a silver medal winner in Asiad Games. ‘It was a total lie. The amount announced by Government of Odisha has already received by me. I request the reporter concerned to change the data that has insulted my State Government and to my sports ability.’
It is stated that a national English daily in its Sports Page carried a story today that Dutee has not received her prize money. The Department of Sports, government of Odisha has vehemently opposed the information as it is not based on authenticity and suitable explanation from the Department. When the Sports Department, Government of Odisha is doing its utmost to promote and encourage the talented sports persons to prosper, the publication of such news item is discouraging, biased and in bad taste in case of undisputed athlete in India like Dutee Chand. We oppose the news piece in the story titled ‘Olympics in mind, Dutee Chand goes for technique overhaul’, filed by correspondent, New Delhi, said Vishal Kumar Dev, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Sports, Government of Odisha.
